What effect does Britain's pollution have on Finland?

I have been assigned a homework task, of writing to the leader of Finland -not really!- and apologise for the effects Britain's pollution has on their country.

I also have to explain how Britain are reducing their emmisions to cut down on these problems.

If you know anything about either of these (other than the obvious, like, we try to save electricity..) please let me know. Thank you!

  1. British tourists. They pollute the whole planet just by their presence!

  2. Representing Finland, I accept your apology :) Just joking,

that's a good topic for a homework, and the advise you already got seems correct.

Coming from Finland, I have to say the local pollution is a lot bigger problem than the pollution coming from Britain.

  3. as both above answers and include damage to freshwater lakes as increased acidity destroys plants and animals and the food webs are broken down.  In Finland and Sweden the governments have sprayed alkalis onto the lakes to reduce the acidity in an attempt to save the natural habitats.

  4. As above, and due to the prevailing wind direction in Britain

  5. Air pollution caused by emissions from UK power stations causes acid rain to fall in Finland, damaging their forests.
