No one talks about deforestation as a leading cause of global warming,,,,,,does anyone agree that it is a factor? Why or why not?

  1. trees are the precipitaton factor

they are the things that recycle the air

id say deforestation would have a huge effect on global warming wouldn't you

    ?

  2. that is because global warming is a sham.....  you do realize we are coming out of an ice age, naturally, right?  it's called science.

also, trees are a renewable resource

  3. Deforestation creates more productive land.  The hodge-podge stand of trees are replaced with crops for grazing or food production.  None of this affects solar activity, which causes the Earth's global warming and cooling.

  4. I think it is a factor. Deforestation results in less trees around to absorb the CO2 released into the atmosphere. CO2 is a leading greenhouse gas and plays a major role in global warming.

  5. Some of the effects are that it kills the current biodiversity or places them more at risk due to their loss of habitat.  Another is that plants/trees replenish the earth with oxygen while they take in the CO2.  Some of the customs done towards deforestation are that the trees are burned, which is not at all good.  I think deforestation is a factor, not the main one, but one of them.

  6. According to the IPCC, Fossil fuel combustion (plus a smaller contribution from cement manufacture) is responsible for more than 75% of the increase in atmospheric CO2. Land use change (primarily deforestation) is responsible for the remainder increase.

  7. Deforestation contributes to global warming for several reasons.

First, cutting down trees prevents them from absorbing and storing carbon dioxide.

Second, the act of logging and/or burning trees releases much of the carbon dioxide they have been storing into the atmosphere. This is happening at much faster rates today than it would with natural cycles of fire and decomposition.

Indonesia and Brazil are the third and fourth largest emittors of greenhouse gases in the world, primarily because of the deforestation occurring in their countries.

Finally, trees also regulate the climate in other ways. They add water vapor to the atmosphere, which increases cloudiness and therefore coolness, as well as more rain. Deforestation on a large scale often leads to severe drought problems and desertification, which can cause the rate of deforestation to increase, both from naturally occurring forest fires that get out of hand due to dryness and because slash and burn farmers are driven off their land by drought and seek more by continuing the cycle of destruction further in the forest.

  8. Deforestation is one of the factor, but compare to the amount of CO2 release from fossil fuel is much lesser. Of couse we should not take deforestation lightly too. Tree help to conver or trap CO2 within itself. Thus when all these tree is being cut, the amount of CO2 they trap will be release back to the atmosphere. These is only on the CO2 side of story. The impact of deforestation is far more then that. It impact on thousands of living thing that live in the forest, the ground (soil) and the water retention. When the land have become in-balance there is high chance that it will become a sand ground.

In todays life it's very difficult to stop total use of tree. But what we can do is to reduce and support tree planting (adopt a tree). Take action now in order to safe the next generation.

  9. It causes loss of trees. However, if you check with the dept of AG, US Forest service, you will find that there are more trees in the US than there has been in the last 200 years. It is due in a large part by large tree farms that plant and harvest trees that you use in the paper you write on, the home you live in and many other products that you touch everyday.

  10. Well it's not that no one talks about it, just not as well advertised today as global warming.  When we cut down trees, we reduce our capacity of recycling tonnes and tonnes of CO2 each year.  This also includes the CO2 we breath and the CO2 our vehicles gives off.

  11. Of course it has a impact, especially in the areas of clear cutting. Some studies suggest that mid range growth is more beneficial then old growth. That's just common sense in relationship to growth cycles. One has to realize also, that forest produce more CO2 well beyond anything man's ability(decay). That representation of 75% as mention by one respondent is not a true reflection. It's more like 75% of 3 % I wish they would stop misleading people. It also makes me question their true motives.

  12. Deforestation causes more flashfloods and more CO2 trapped in the atmospher. They also cause more erosion and more animals astray and homeless.

  13. Environment is the surround where we live :

All of living humans & animal ; inhale oxygen & exhale carban dioxide.

For the earth’s environment plant inhale carban dioxide  & exhale oxygen.

For Eco. Balance oxygen = carban dioxide

but by burning the energy resources to Generate the Power, release  the excess carban dioxide , which is causing the green house effect – due to this Global warming is taking place.

Energy resources are mainly – Conventional  & Non conventional

Conventional such as – Coal , Fossil fuel ( Diesel, Petrol, LPG,CNG, etc.) & Nuclear etc.

Non conventional -  Solar, Wind, Hydro & Bio diesel etc.

These are mainly for used generating power, using Thermal/Gas/ Nuclear Power Plants. Which is turn used for Domestic use, Industrial & Commercial purposes such as running Factories & Transportation, running Agricultural Infrastructures etc.  Obliviously with Industrial revolution energy requirement is tremendously increasing. However it leads to releasing of harmful gases and solid waste such as fly ash etc. which is causing Green house effect & Nuclear plant has risk of harmful radiations which is dangers to human life & animal kingdom.

Diesel, Petrol, ATF & Gas is being used in big way for IC& Jet engines which in turn used for transportation (LMV, LCV, HCV etc.) and Generators etc. Which in turn leading to Global warming, melting of polar ice & climate change etc.

We are still running plants based on old technologies, warn out & completed it’s full life may be 40 – 50 years old or more. In India we have seen the fiasco such as Enron Power, a new plant but due to red- tapism  couldn’t  be operated as per initial agreement & many more cases. ,

Use of Freon in Air conditioners is also causing to damage to environment. By developing the alternative to Freon & curbing the use of it.

Where new alternatives are under Research & development such as Bio diesel using Zetropha seeds (Ratan Jot)etc., so can we plant the Zetropha, this can give us Alternative Fuel for future and stopping the deforestation?  and Non conventional sources are still not economical compared to conventional ones except hydro in some cases.

As a social cause it’s the duty of all citizen, Govt. & Industry to conserve the energy recourse, by not exploiting them and Make our planet Greener & safer for all.

  14. In Canada forestry is a very regulated industry, and more trees are planted each year than are cut down.  There is no global warming, but if there was this wouldn't contribute to it.

  15. Deforestation has a devastating event on the air we breathe alone. Tress inhale carbon dioxide and release oxygen, we as inhale oxygen. Therefore, if all these trees are being cut down, then we will be inhaling toxic filled air. I think for every tree that is cut, we should plant a new one.

  16. What do you mean "No one talks?" The felling of the rain forests on the equatorial belt was responsible for the earliest forecasts of global warming.
