What effect does energy light saving bulb have?

i cant tell no diffrence in my light bill after convering over to them but one plus is they have lasted over 3 years  unlike the others a couple months

Using energy efficient compact florescent light bulbs (CFLs) reduces the overall load on the power grid.  

Because most power in the US comes from coal fired power plants the change to CFLs reduces the demand from these power plants which in turn will reduce the amount of coal needed to provide power.

Burning coal adds carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide to the atmosphere.

In the summertime they save quite a bit because they produce less heat so your air conditioner doesn't have to work as hard.  In the winter they make no difference because what you save for lighting will be offset by increased heating costs.  Another advantage is that they don't need to be replaced as frequently as incandescent bulbs.

It has the effect of saving energy but giving out the same light.

You use less electricity for the same amount of light. The problem is that they contain mercury and they don't tell you that.  Many of them are going into the landfills and leaching into our water systems.

Yes, Jimbo I know that..but they don't say that on the packaging and there are not enough recyclers.

And they are being thrown into the garbage. Ergo my warning...
