  1. It is huge, even if some concerned customer would like to ignore it. Politically, winning the RWC in 95, with Madiba wearing the Springbok rugby kit, was the tipping point between peace and possible disaster in South Africa. The effect of the 07 RWC will have to bee seen, but it will play a part in the general South African society. Everyone loves a winner, and will come together behind a world winner

Money does increase, and it is easier to get sponsorships. Ask any union who played in the RWC. Teams who did less well could struggle a bit, but in countries whose teams did better than expected, the money will roll.

The interest in rugby increases, and more people take an interest in it.  When, ever, in the history of Argentinian soccer, has a game between Boca Juniors an River Plate been moved because it clashed with a rugby game? In this case the Puma's quarterfinal game.

Rugby is bigger than the doubters want to admit. It is the 3rd biggest sport from a viewers point of view. And that is enough for anyone who wants to make money.

  2. Enormous in New Zealand. Subdued everywhere else

  3. foot ball is more takle its better

  4. From an Article written in ‘Yahoo xtra rugby’ it is says that the Rugby World Cup is now the 3rd largest event in the world behind the Olympics and the Soccer World Cup.

Television coverage of the 2003 Australian event reached a cumulative audience of 3.5 billion and was worth billions in advertising,

On the Business side of the future 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, it is said that it is estimated to bring in an extra $NZ 112 million ($A93.78 million) in tax for the government.

An estimated of 70,000 fans, more than 2500 media and up to 2500 corporate and VIP guest would be in New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup 2011.

Many of them may go on to exploring other parts of the country.

But like everything, all those there are huge benefits; there are always risks.

One that was mentioned in the article was the significant pressure on the travel and tourism infrastructure for the short periods.

So, now, one can only imagine the effect the Rugby World Cup will have on society and in my opinion, it’s all good.

  5. Rugby offers a pretence of nationhood...If countries like England, Wales and Scotland didn't get to do phoney displays of nationalism about 15 or 20 times a year, and wave flags about etc....their appitite for independence would probably be a lot keaner...

  6. None what so ever. Rugby cant hold its own in the World of Bussines Sports! No one whould want a rugby account. Such as marketing and jersy making. You would lose money. Rugby is an Isolated sport that has and will not ever reach a critical mass.
