  1. it might stop raining in england

  2. slight temporary cooling.

it's a small eruption compared to Mt Pinatubo in the Philippines.

my apologies. yahoo wouldn't let me post the link correctly.

i know it does that sometimes, but i don't know why.

there are a couple more links below that do work.

unfortunately, the wiki link is the easiest to read and understand.

  3. It will likely cool the earth, depending on severity. Man-caused global warming is a HOAX!

  4. None that will be detectable, for a volcano to cause any detectable global cooling they must inject at least 1 million tons of SO2 into the stratosphere. Mt. Pinatubo for instance, launched an estimated 20 million tons of SO2 which caused 0.9 F degrees of cooling and substantial ozone depletion.

  5. Probably none.

However, volcanic eruptions--if they are large enough, can have a short term cooling effect. Here's how it works:

The volcano(s) discharge a lot of ash into the atmosphere. What  particles of ash are small enough (qhich can be a lot) desn't fall to the groud right away--it can stay in the atmosphere for weeks or months.  The ash blocks part of the sunlight--producing a cooling effect.

The phenomenon is short term.  Within a few months--a year or so at most, the ash is "scrubbed" out of the air by rain and the climate will return to it's previous state.

  6. My guess (since there is no data) the effect is a lot more then the annual man made CO2 emissions of Alaska over the past year or so.

Here in No CA, we  have had forest fires burning 10's of thousand of acres.  The air quality has been noticeably degraded to a point the sun has been cut off for days.

Check this link on Environmental Effects of Increased Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide

  7. Likely none, as crabby mentions. It is a small eruption--generally speaking, around 1 million tons of sulfur dioxide must be sent to an elevation of about 100,000 feet to be able to distribute sufficiently to effect climate (rough figures).

And seeing as how this eruption occurred at such a high latitude, it has an even smaller chance of effecting climate --having to do with the general circulation of the stratosphere (tropical eruptions are far more efficient at effecting the climate on a large scale).

  8. many says we can die on heat or burned into ashes when it gets hotter than before.

  9. Minor volcanic eruptions have little effect on the environment.  A series of major eruptions such as Vesuvius and Krakatoa will have a cooling effect on the planet.  Particles from volcanic eruptions can stay in the atmosphere for decades, which reflect sunlight and have a cooling effect on the planet.

  10. Generally volcanoes will lead to a slightly cooler atmosphere.  Example=pompeii.  Its like a miniature version of when the metior hit and caused and changed the climate to kill the dinosaurs.  I wouldn't be worried about the climate too much though, as the earth goes through natural cycles of warming and cooling, with or without the help of man.
