I know how fish eye lens and the tilt-shift lens effects a photo, but I don't know how the pancake lens effects a photo.

  1. Pancakes do not alter the image in any way. They're prime lenses that are physically thin, like pancakes, hence the name. There's really nothing special about them other than the fact that they're extremely compact. Combined with a compact DSLR, like the 25mm f/2.8 Zuiko pancake with the E-420, you have a very slim and portable package. Pancakes also tend to be less intimidating to subjects in urban and candid photography.

    See some examples here:

  2. There is no effect, its just light compact and specifically made for travel.

They are basically all around fixed focus lense that people generally use for travel, so you can just tuck away the dslr.....

If you have a zoom lens, then you cant tuck it away....and have to lug it around because the lens sticks out...
