Old, basic type! How can I film things in reverse? Is it possible? What other simple effects can produce? How can I edit in analogue? Many thanks.

  1. to be honest i dont think there is much you can do however if you have a dvd recorder you could try hooking your vhs player to dvd recorder and record it into digital then put it on your pc and using a video editing software edit away. to be honest ive not tried it but might work and may be a cheap fix.  the only thing im not sure of is if you can take the video off a dvd player and rip it to your pc.

  2. Just answered a similar question try this link

using the video out and audio you can connect through this and put it on your computer then edit it as normal. it will be digital good EH!!!!!!

    hope this helps

  3. You cannot film in reverse, you film normal and then playback on a JVC BRS525 autotracking player going backwards. To edit analog is deck to deck, the companion edit recorder is the JVC BRS822. To get precise edits (particularly where reverse motion is required), you need an edit controller, such as the JVC RMG860. The list price on those 3 items is about $15,000. To do effects like disolves requires a second playback deck and a mixer with built in digital sync, or an analog mixer with external dual synchronizer. So add another $5000. To get titles, you need a character generator... And you have to be careful how you edit as more than second generation gives unacceptable quality. And you are stuck with non-HiFi audio if you do any insert edits, and the HiFi tracks are disjointed at every assemble edits making music videos an impossibility.

i guess you can see why the computer has taken over video editing.

  4. You an buy reverse tape, agfa (now defunct) made it and i think amtech have a version.  You may need to do a google, beware that when the tape looks as if its at the end, it actually is at the beginning(i.e. the spool is on the right-hand spool)

If you want to record in black in white then you need to buy Scotch VHS MC-***  the *** referring to the length of the tape, the MC meaning monochrome.

Fuji used to do negative colour tape, designed for people who were transferring negative film to tape.

The trouble is that you have to buy a tape for each purpose.
