Can I please have some ideas as how a seperation of a mum and dad would effect a 12 month old baby. The baby gets to spend time seperately with his mum or dad.Do you think it would cause problems to the child?

  1. I think this really depends on the initial situation.  Who was the primary care giver?  I am a SAHM and when hubby goes away for a few days for work, my son (14 months) doesn't even blink.  But when I am gone for a few hours, my son notices.

Whatever the case, you cannot change the situation of separate visits.  Just try your best to focus on the child and not any angst against each other.  You will never know the answer to this question until the child becomes an adult and can communicate with you honestly  the effect, if any.

  2. People say that it doesnt effect them and that they are to young to notice or understand. from personal experience that is rubbish. my son was 13 months old wen his father and i split and i saw a big change in him and it still effects him (he is now 19 months). if it is possible for u and ur partner to be civil and be nice around ur baby then it makes it so much better for them. My ex now comes round for dinner and baths our boy and he is sooooo much better for it.

good luck i know how ur feeling

    xoxo

  3. As the child is so young, it would be easier for him to adjust than an older child. As long as he has loving attention from both parents, and if possible you are both amicable, there should be no ill effects.Try and work together to make sure that he has the support of both of you.You both helped to create this little person, so he should be your priority.
