  1. Prozac is an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) antidepressant. It blocks receptors in the neurons that take up excess serotonin allowing serotonin to remain in the synapse longer than normal. This extra serotonin excites the neurons and causes other neurotransmitters to be released. This alleviates depression and anxiety.
