  1. Two main types of drag.  One is parasite drag, which is caused by basically putting something into moving air - i.e. a wing.  It's much like sticking your hand out a car window.  When you hold your hand so that your palm is perpendicular to the oncoming air, your hand wants to go backwards.  This is called form drag.  There are also other types (interference drag, skin friction drag), but in both cases, the presence of the wing or other aircraft surfaces creates a rearward force (opposite the direction of thrust) that is known as drag.  There is also another type of drag that is called induced drag.  Contrary to other answers in this question, induced drag is a byproduct of lift.  When a wing creates lift, it also creates induced drag.  This is because of one of Newton's Laws - for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.  When you create lift, you also create drag.  This is directly related to the angle of attack of the wing, which is also directly related to lift production.

To simplify, drag is a rearward force that acts opposite to the thrust of the aircraft. It can be caused by the production of lift, and/or simply the presence of the wing or other aircraft surface in the oncoming airflow.

  2. Surface area

  3. Nothing really Affects the drag, the drag Affects the airplane.

  4. the shape of everything (wings, fuselage, etc)

    the angle of flight

    flaps

    gear down

    etc

  5. friction of the air passing over the fuselage and wings (drag)  is always slowing the aircraft.  Contant power to the engines is required to overcome this drag and maintain speed which in turn will allow the plane to maintain altitude.

This drag effect is great is slowing an aircraft to allow descent......as you know there are no brakes while airborn, so a quick slowdown can be accomplished by reducing power and even by turning or climbing

  6. Yes because exist two class of drag, parasite and inducided and the inducided drag is producing for the aircraf shape .

  7. Any thing you move through the air creates drag.
