i would like an excess of power so i can pull the entire weight of my cart straight up if i have to -- but mainly to just slowly trudge forward for as long as possible and recharging as i go by solar.

i thought a winch would do it but i think it will burn up with even semi constant use...? again i am not concerned about speed beyond what i can walk. dependability in remote areas sure would be nice as well...

  1. your question is much less than clear.  you talk about a battery, and later about solar panels.  you talk about a winch, but what's the other end tied to?  you talk about remote areas, but does that mean in the desert or in the woods?

if i had to guess, you probably don't want a solar panel.  they're fragile and bulky and awkward, and don't produce a lot of current.  and need a fair bit of sunlight to be of any use at all.

it's one thing to put 'em on a house, where they don't move, and if clouds come over, they'll move on in a bit.  it's quite another thing to put them on something that moves.

so, from the limited info, and trying to guess what you'd like to do, i'd think it's not going to work very well.
