I came accross this thing in a former bank building.

I just keep wondering what it may be. It is quite big (about 2.5 feet high).

The text at the front reads "B.O.T. Units at 230 Volt".

The gauge reads from 0 to 460.

The number at the bottomlooks like a serial number (55933).

  1. It is a Model III, synchronous, double-oscillating, super-regenerative, phastophlegmometer.  Be very careful, several people were killed trying to connect it to their garage door openers and were disemboweled.

  2. the construction looks fairly old 40-50yrs old?

the sphere at the bottom looks like a pressure vessel

at first I thought it might be a cavity filter but it might be a very old pressure transducer

very good question I'll come back and see if anyone else knows more

AHHH now I know its a very early watt hour meter

  3. A BOT (Board of Trade) Unit is a standardized unit for determining charges/costs of electrical energy. It's equivalent to 1 kW*hr.

I'm wondering if that's a really old meter for determing the utility costs.

  4. Looks like some sort of mercury pressure gauge or temperature gauge. Watch out, it may still have some mercury inside, coating the glass.

    .

  5. That is a very strange object. I would go to the town hall and ask for the historical architect and ask if he/she knows. Maybe another old school architect knows.

  6. i HAVE NO CLUE BUT YOU SHOULD SCRAP IT YOU MIGHT GET BIG BUCKS,,,
