  2. 220 volt and the plug configuration is different.  You need a step up transformer (110 to 220) commonly known as a voltage converter and an adapter so your plug fits in their wall socket.  I saw a good kit at Mervyns that has that transformer and plug adapters for all major countries.  It is in the luggage section.
