Question:

What else can Budgies eat?

I had a parakeet for a while now and the only thing I feed him are seeds.

I want to give him more stuff though because I'm pretty sure he gets tired of seeds.

What kind of food can I feed him without being scared that he'll choke on it?

  1. ok !  budgies should have a balanced diet and you are a great owner for realizing that this needs more attention!  so you could try some veggies, just cut 'em up really small, also apples, pears etc.  also no advicodos!

the budgies should have a pellet diet most of the time but these fruits and veggies should be treat once in a while.  congrats on your budgie!

    anyone know anything about lovebirds?

  2. Great little website on budgie nutrition & foods.

  3. Make sure he has grass or some other greenery twice a week at least (but not too often). If you feed too much lettuce he will get diorrea (can't spell that). You can buy treats at pet shops but my budgie gets those as an occasional treat.

Oh, I almost forgot, if you can put a branch from a fruit tree as a perch, he will love it. Leave the little twigs on the branch as they are good for them to cling on to. Also leave the leaves on to chew on, but don't forget to take them off after a day or two.

  4. OMG I LOVE THIS QUESTION!

to start off, i have birds as well. my parakeets love this treat. this treat is both healthy and yummy. simply get sprouts from your local produce store and wash them. i usually keep them room temp and, as soon as i wash them, i take a handful and dump them onto a bottle lid. u can use a small tray as well. then inside the cage i set up a table by putting an upside down bottle (wide, so it doesnt topple over) and place it in the center. then i just place the lid on top and they fly down here and there to nibble. Sprouts are crunchy and nice in taste for these little feather balls =] aahhaa. ENJOY.......you can also do this by shredding carrots..make sure carrots are moist.

**take food out after they are done eating.....dont keep in cage for more then an hour. and if they p**p on it....discard it and replace the veggies**

also, you can but treats from your pet shop or petco and buy HEALTHY bird treats. but make sure u dont over feed.

  5. Giving it bread, cereal, oats, fruits and vegetables are all ok,will not choke and its provides supplement and protein for your pet! I feed these food to my pet bird too so its guranteed! Only don feed it citrus food such as grapefruit, lemons and oranges. The rest should be able to!
