  1. First, sign petitions to prevent building of gas and wood fired plants. Second, sign petitions to prevent the building of new refineries. 3rd, you need to go to AlGore's site and purchase carbon credits, which Mr Gore will then use to plant trees where they will be most effective in reducing the CO2. According to a UK study, the average person needs to purchase about $292 per year of these credits to offset the pollution they produce. Since you use less than most, I would reduce it about 10%. (The firm is called Generation Investment Management). Right now they are planting trees high in the mountains of Ripovustan, apparently the trees have a better chance of absorbing the CO2 at that particular altitude. You might also want to start a tree planting company, just locally, to help offset all the hot air produced in your town. Your voice has been heard!

  2. Go Omish, you won't use electricity or any harmful chemicals and you will walk to work or school, ortake a bike.

  3. Good work so far...  I'd vote for politicians who support international treaties on carbon emissions. On a local level, I'd stop driving so much by planning your trips more carefully. I'd ride a bike or take buses when possible and avoid airline travel. The train is far more ecological.

Support local farms by buying their produce at farmer's markets or direct buy programs. If you don't have them in your area, start it up. Do not buy products from corporations like Wallmart. Buy local. Do not support military spending because there is a huge release of carbon associated with supporting these industries (not to mention deaths and human suffering).

Recycle your garbage. If you don't have a recycling program in your community, work with local politicians to set it up.

Bicycle to a thrift store to buy used clothing and other items rather than buying new. Consume less... recycle... reuse.

Seattle has model programs in place and a good mass transit system. If you don't then push your government to do the right thing.

Invest in businesses that focus on energy efficiency, solar power, and solar hot water heating.

Unfortunately, there is a tendency for media and naive people to marginalize this effort. The media has a vested interest in blocking efforts because their sponsors want to sell you the latest shiny new products that you don't really need. Media wants you to spend, spend, spend. I'd learn about "peak oil" from the Internet and why there are solid economic reasons for individuals to become more conscious of global warming.

It will save you money and make the world a better place.

  4. Use cold water

  5. Have you seen "An Inconvenient Truth"? At the end there is a long list of things you can do to help.

If you're old enough, vote for the Green party in your next election (they won't win, but you may help to increase their power base).

But I wouldn't go around lecturing people and affecting a "holier than thou" attitude. Just do what you can as an individual by consuming less, reusing materials as much as possible, and recycling more (as you are already doing). Eat less beef (North American beef is often imported from South America where rainforest is cut to make grazing land for cows -- a major cause of CO2 build-up), limit the amount of driving you need to do, and just try to avoid wasteful behaviours.

90% of the world's population already lives that way (due to the fact that most people live in developing countries and have less to consume or waste to begin with), so all you'd really be doing is joining the rest of humanity.

  6. teach people the effect of global warming and get more support. Start to grow plants, cuz they can absorb the carbondioxide and realese oxygen, so they are the key to prevent it..

  7. First of all you just stop stressing on Global warming. Their is nothing you or I or anyone can do to stop the world from evolving. Man is not the cause of Global warming. The sooner you realize this than you can try to do things that will make a difference in your life. Global warming is a money making Al Gore Nobel Prize winning Hoax. If you investigate more outside the norm. You will find that all the planets in the galaxy are heating up. So unless theirs a bunch of aliens driving SUV's on our sister planets, Al Gore is a lier. The Government are professional and habitual liers.Don't believe all that they want you to believe.Planet "X" is our tenth planet. This planet is coming,it is going to cause more destruction than we can ever imagine.Billions of people will die. Worry about that if you need to worry about something>

  8. you could pick up things you see o the ground and recycle it?

    :D?

  9. You can stop polluting and recycle.Make an invention. See garbage on the flor pick it up.Prevent family members from smoking.

  10. when will it be too late?

  11. You can find out global warming is a lie first. Thats a good start. Not saying the things you are doing are wrong but educate yourself before you devote yourself to something.

  12. I think it is amazing how many people think that they are important enough that any world leader needs to talk to them.

  13. It's gonna be years and years and years away. Plus if your the only person doing it then obviously you need to talk to friends to get them to do it, they talk to their friends etc..

  14. your impact may be small, (no pun intended)  but good for you that you have such a passion.  i know one thing i have done is switch to these new light bulbs that use like half the energy of a regular light bulb... they last up to 2 years, and i read that if you use these to light the average house, it will save the same ammount of energy as if you didn't drive the average persons work commute for a whole year.

you can get them at any grocery store, too, so it's not like they are obscure or anything.

    *edit*

why is everyone on here being so negative??  who cares if global warming is real or not??  you guys act like it's a bad thing to try to live a low impact life and help the environment just because the words "global warming"  were mentioned...

megan, don't pay attention to these people, they are idiots looking for something to preach about.

  15. you are stupid hippie you probly dont know the first thing about global warming

  16. mail a letter to the president

donate money to WWF and other orgnizations

    buy recycled/precycled stuff

    dont use hair spray

towel dry ur hair, dont use a hair dryer

    etc

  17. Wow, I think you did enough to promote Al Gore's silly global warming thing already!  I would think that a Wicca would know that  we are only visitors here. If you really want to slow global warming, you could stop spewing forth your c**p.

  18. Its a fairy tale

  19. It's good that you're concerned. The thing is, those petitions don't mean anything unfortunately. The governments do not care enough to change anything.

  20. cycle and walk instead of drive, busk in the street after walking into town then donate the money to greenpeace and friends of the earth, swap to energy efficient light bulbs, install solar panels in your house, maybe also windmills if you can, make a compost heap in your garden using vegetable and fruit peel and then use the decomposed stuff to fertilise your garden growing your own fruit and veg to reduce food miles.

also try and purchase products not imported great distances.

switch of energy appliances after usage.

be an active green peace and friends of the earth member.

bake cakes and make crafts and sell them and then give the money to these charities. Organise walks, picnics, cycles, runs, swims in the sea and sporting activities outside which don't contribute to global warming and get others to participate in them.

If you need to travel great distances, use public transport.

    loads more...

could keep rattling on but won't.

  21. B*tch slap global warming in the face.

  22. Plant a few trees of the type naturally in the area... Recycle, cut power consuption- walk more.

  23. There is no global warming.

  24. Nothing Its just a natural thing WISH EVERYBODY WOULD JUST SKIP THIS ISSUE

  25. Stop exhaling the pollutant called carbon dioxide. i e stop breathing, and let sensible folks get on with life.

  26. You can encourage people around you to maybe lessen their use of energy so that coal power plants don't have to fire up another factory to meet OUR needs or wants for energy. Most people will probably be amazed to know that it really benefits themselves in more ways than one when they try to lessen their consumption. BUt of course you got to set the example and speak out on the different levels of importance of global warming.

  27. Well, petions wont work because, global warming has to do with pollution and the nature. We Are the ones that started global warming. Global worming is that the ice in the artic oceans are melting and if all the artics melts the world will get flooded and we wont be abe to do anything. So the best thing to do is try to convince people not to pollute the earth and read lables on stuff like hair spray and that stuff u spray on plants so they will grow more. And be sure to keep up dated on the world.

  28. You don't need to do a thing.  Signing those petitions should take care of it.  Thanks!!

  29. Spread the word:  Smoking weed produces CO2!!  Every time someone lights up, they're killing the planet!  Did you know, there's 7 times more CO2 in a joint than a typical cigarette?  It's as much as burning a gallon of gasoline!!  Do your part, spread the word, not air pollution!!

    ;)

  30. A passion for the earth...

I have a passion for LIFE and I'm not wasting it listening to ignorant people who believe that the earth is warming, and someday will kill all of our descendants.

  31. those 2 peitions you sign are people who want your money and my money, they only care about them selfs
