Question:

What else can I talk about?

I'm doing a report comparing U.S. and global market shares of GM and Toyota and reasons why they are in their current position. I've already talked about the U.S. economic situation (oil prices, foreclosures, value of dollar), fuel efficiency, and cost structure. What else can I talk about? I need to relate the reasons to economics, which shouldn't be too hard. Thank you!

  1. Quality perception of the products. Years after WWII anything made in Japan was considered junk now many people love the Japanese products and are saying they are better than American products. You won't find many people under 30 who have ever wanted to buy a brand new American vehicle. 40 years ago you wouldn't find anyone who wanted one made in Japan. Ford is saying they are now as good as Toyota, that doesn't make me want to buy one.

I am old so have bought American most of the time, I bought a German car in 1969 and it needed metric tools and in Alaska I couldn't find a oil filter for it, I kept it 10 years then swore off foreign cars. Today I was shopping for a new car and looking at Toyota even my mom is driving one and it isn't her first Toyota. Now they are common, parts are easy to find and every garage has metric tools.
