What else can the airlines do to charge service fees?

With the airlines now charging for just about everything as an "extra" surcharge or fee, what do you think they can get away with to nail the consumer? I heard that Jet Blue is now charging $7 for pillows and blankets. Give me your ideas (realistic or otherwise) to help the airlines

rake us over the coals some more!

  1. Earphones are going up in price.

  2. Maybe they could start charging us for use of a seat belt and then still insist that seat belts are mandatory!

Charge for the use of the bathroom?  (eventhough the thought of an airplane bathroom kinda makes me gag, so i'd save on that one)

That gets me thinking: Is there someway we can charge a fee to all the kids in this Air Travel category who keep asking: "im going on a plain tmrw and im skared"?  or of course the ever present "where can I find cheap tickets".  Ugh.

  3. Let's take RyanAir, a large European carrier:

-you get charged if you want to check-in at the airport counter (the free alternative is checking in online)  $7

-you get charged if you want to check luggage (so you get charged twice, for the lugage $20, and for checking in at the airport $7,, since you can't check luggage online).

They have lower weight limits on the baggage, so they charge you for the extra weight. Let's not go there for prices. Expensive!

They charge you for paying for your ticket when you buy it with a credit card.  Funny, they have different rates for credit cards, debit cards, etc.

Obviously, the peanuts and water/soda are not free.

But for a weekend trip to a city, when you can take a backpack with a change of clothes, they ARE cheap.

  4. Maybe airlines wouldnt have to charge for these things if they could actually charge what it takes to fly the plane from point A to point B but because everyone wants "cheap" airfares they have to get money to pay for these flight some how and airlines are still taking big hits to try to continue to give you guys those "cheap" fares.
