  1. For every company the also including the making profit, the main goal should be increasing the value of the firm, meaning increasing the value of company shares.

    Classic example is a company making a long term investment, the value of the shares could rise even though there is no profit. The reason could be the company diverting funds generated from the business back into the investment. Why the share prices increase;  even though there is no profit for the current year, with the completion of right investment, there would be a potential of soaring profits within the next years.
