On Thursday, my daughter woke up with a 102 degree fever. So i called the peds office, and my ped was on vacation, so they sent me to the Urgent care... well after my doc looking at my daughter, he said that she doesn't have an ear infection, or a cold... he thought maybe a UTI, because last time she was there, when she was 3 months old (she is know 7.5 months) they got a urine sample through this bag that was attached to her v****a, and it came back infected.. but it may be because she had also pooped, and maybe some of the p**p got in the bag.. anyway.. so they put her on antibiotics just in case.. well today i noticed that she is pulling at one ear constantly.. and putting her finger in her ear.. she also had diarrhea too, now i don't know if that is because she isn't feeling good, or the meds (the pharmacists said it may happen)... could this just be an ear infection? The other day, i noticed this like brown build up on the inside of her ear... i thought it was a scab or something maybe she scratched herself.. but when i took it off there was no scratch or blood.. i mentioned it to the urgent care doc but, he said no ear infection.... maybe he was wrong.

  1. I know how worrisome it can be when your child is sick.  The diarrhea could certainly be caused by the antibiotics; they don't discriminate between good and bad bacteria so they tend to cause digestive issues.  Try not to worry.  If your daughter has a bacterial infection, the meds will most likely take care of it.  If it is viral, it will run its course.  If her fever is still around on Monday, or if it creeps much over 102, you will probably want to take her back in.  I hope she feels better soon!

  2. I would take her to her doctor.  I went all through life being told I had ear infections left and right.  I never had one, I had a tumor in my ear that almost caused brain damage because they did not find it until I was 16, and I was born with it.  So bottom line, doctors are wrong.  Build up in the ears is not that normal, the meds would help if she did have an ear infection, but still I would just take her to another doctor if her doctor is not in.  You know your daughter better then anyone.  If you feel something is wrong, then go with your feelings and not what a Urgent care doctor says.

  3. I agree with Amber. Doctors are the professionals, but no one knows your child like you do, and doctors are human and make mistakes. Always Always trust your intuition and get a second opinion. It sounds very much like she has an ear infection to me. Maybe symptoms or signs are visible now, that weren't on Thursday.  The diarreha is probably caused by the antibiotics. And that is not true that if she is taking antibiotics for something else, that it will clear up the ear infection also. There are different medicines for different things and you should never think that one med for an ailment will clear up another illness. Please go and get a second opinion. Your daughter's health is much more important than looking like an overly worried mom. Trust Me! I've been there. lol.. Good luck.

  4. Demand admittance to the pediatric ICU.

  5. call your reg. Dr office and tell them you didnt think the urgent care doctor was right and you want a 2nd opinion and let them know what is going on. tell them you want to see another pediatrician in YOUR clinic

  6. If it is an ear infection the meds will clear that up too. diarrhea is very common when on antibiotics cuz it takes out the good bacteria in the tummy and bowels

  7. As a mom, I would trust your intuition over a doctor's opinion that you don't even know, especially if she is still running a fever.  You shoud call your doctor back, or take her to a different clinic.  Good luck...it's so wearing when you have a sick baby.
