Question:

What else do I tell the bank?

I just paid off one of my credit cards which was $1200 on Friday. Yesterday the balance of it was $0.00. I check my account today and it says I owe them another $30. I call the bank and try to dispute the charge and the girl is giving me a hard time and yelling at me. At this point I am very upset and I want this charge taken off now. My money was taken out Friday and I shouldn't have a charge within 4 days. I'm so pissed. I asked for a manager and she gave me attitude saying they were unavailable. I told her that I needed this charge resolved ASAP and I needed to talk to someone TODAY. She told me tomorrow. What else should I do? I'm so upset right now!!!!!!!!! I'm so done with credit cards!

  1. #1 Don't worry.

If the charge is just on your account today, you really should wait until you receive your statement before disputing charges. On your on-line acess does it show were the chrge comes from or is it an interest charge ?

There is a good chance that the bank itself can not find out what the charge is from until the end of business today.  Pint of time when details are updated is during the night update run.

  2. The $30 is obviously a "fee".   You would have to have known about this fee in advance of paying the $1,200 for them to charge the fee.  Go back and see if there was a clear warning.   Even if there was, it's worth a trip to the nearest branch of that bank that issued the card.   The 800 number on the back of the card is Customer Support.  You are a customer and you need help.

When you talk to them, don't swear.  Don't get angry.  Be businesslike and be upbeat.  I always tell the other person that i won't swear at them, but i won't get cheated and i won't go away.

    You deserve your money.

  3. BBB!!

Call the Better Business Bureau . Do you have proof? Like did you get a reciept? Write a check, or direct deposit?

Get proof, then call the BBB

  4. Your through with credit cards, good for you. It is my understanding the balance on cards is amortized as if were a thirty year loan. Now do you understand why you can't get ahead of oyur credit cards? Call your card company and make them tell you, then get mad.

  5. Phone arguments with customer service assistants is totally the wrong way to dispute something on your account.

Make copies of the statements with the disputed charges and attach them to an intelligently-worded letter stating why you think the charge is not correct.  Send it to the customer service address on your statements.

  6. Did the girl you talked to tell you why you have a $30 charge? There could be a few reasons. When does your billing cycle end? If your billing cycle ended around the time you paid the $1200, it's possible that interest charges were being calculated but weren't posted to your account yet. Or it could be a late payment fee or an overlimit fee (both of which are disclosed to you when you accept a credit card). Until you know exactly what a charge is for, you can't really dispute it.

As far as the treatment you got, it's not right that the customer service rep gave you a hard time. But were you giving her a hard time first? Remember, she's a person just like you are, and she doesn't like getting yelled at either. I used to work in a call center for a credit card company, and people did used to call in yelling at me. Even if they had good reason to be upset, I used to find it much more difficult to deal with those people, and tended to want to help them less because they were verbally abusing me. The customer service rep didn't cause your problem, but they can help fix it. It works a lot better when you treat them like people.

  7. This is what you do You walk into the bank demand to speak with the bank manager and it will be resolved

NEVER, NEVER do business like that over the phone..

  8. Wow that rep didn't have to treat you that way...never mind her. The only reason I can think is that even though you may have very well paid your balance on Friday, your outstanding balance was still attracting interest on any existing balance.

Try and talk to a manager about that ....she just might say yes and tell her about that rude rep...hope you took her name down
