I have started making a book for my father who is really into family and where he came from. I have made a family tree and done research including origin of his last name, coat of arms, pictures of our family and funny facts about the year he was born. Can you think of anything else I can put in it? Thanks for your help.

  1. What about his education?  Like, where did he go to school?  Any school photos?  Any contactable school friends, ask them to give their memories of your father?  Also you could check the web for what was happening in the world when he was born and add this (with pictures).  Do you have pictures of where his parents, grandparents, g-g grandparents, etc are buried?  Is there any Historical Societies where your father grew up, or his parents where you can ask for any photos of the area and historical significance to your father or his family.  I hope this helps?

  2. What are your roots? Where did your people come from?

For example Ferguson is a strong Scots clan. The name is German - it means the forgotten soldiers, or people. A troop of Prussian, or Hussars, were sent to Scotland to protect Mary Queen of Scots, during the time of King Henry VIII [he was very angry with the Catholic Church at the time]. This was the age of Guy Fawkes Day, and the Spanish invasion threat. With all that going on the German troops in Scotland were forgetten. They felt sorry for themselves, and called each other the Fergesen folk. Now they are a world wide clan.

  3. People often forget to include sources where information was obtained, such as Church Records, Film numbers if obtained from Genealogical Libraries. Census record dates and numbers, also photo copies of such records. BMD Certificates

All of these are important for any future research.
