I'm need to write a paragraph on this sentence: "Americans are the western pilgrims." I have to explain how the author (crevecoeur) uses figurative language to convey attitude towards America. That sentence is a metaphor. What should I write?

I started like this: In his essay, "What is an American" Crevecoeur uses figurative language to express his sentiments regarding America. For example, he states "Americans are the western pilgrims." Clearly pilgrims are people who come from different places to a specifice place they feel is right for them. However, Crevecouer is saying______________ (Don't know what else to write) Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

  1. maybe he's saying that americans are people of different places that at sometimes they are like pilgrims.  they all have diverse backgrounds and the commonality between us all is that we are all settle in america

  2. nuthin

  3. Delete: "Clearly" and "However."

......that many Americans immigrated from places where they were unable to practice their religions in the ways they wanted, or were otherwise persecuted for their beliefs. So they saw the new world as a sort of promised land, and their journeys to and settlement in America as a fulfillment of their spiritual aspirations.
