  1. 1) Get rid of the gravel, gravel paper, and the vitamin supplement if it's the kind that goes in the water.  Unlike finches, parakeets and other hookbills have no need for gravel, as they hull the seeds with their beaks.  Gravel can actually cause things like crop impaction, which could kill the bird.  If by gravel paper you mean sandpaper (that's the closest thing I've seen), that has the additional danger of the glue holding the sand on being ingested and making the bird sick.  Use regular newspaper for the cage floor.  As for the vitamins, birds don't always want to drink their water if it has something weird in it.

    2) Get a cool-looking playgym for the bird to play on when it's out of the cage, and also get more toys (be careful about the metal used in anything; many metals are toxic, but stainless steel is definitely safe).  Play music for the bird sometimes, too.  They like to sing along.  And of course, be friendly and patient and talk softly so the bird will learn to trust you and be your friend, and then you'll both have lots of fun.  :)

  2. Another cheap idea is go out side and pick up some sticks....out of all the toys I have for my little guy he LOVES to chew on the sticks, so does my b/f parakeet. BUT if you do this make sure you wash the stick because you never know what is on it. Good Luck! Oh, here is a site for more info if ya need it. http://parrotcentral.net/parakeets.htm

  3. get it a mirror........they love to look at themselves....they also like treats...such as Berry's(raspberry's,blueberry's,pomegran...

  4. Just make sure that you have a nice size cage for your bird, toys to keep him stimulated (they love mirrors to look at themselves and also love toys that make noise, also love paper/wood that they can chew on), food/water, perches, a rope hung from the top of the cage always is fun for them, a swing, cuttlebone, a spray bottle for misting, millet, a pellet diet (pellet diets are more well-rounded compared to seed diets which are fattening and dont give all the needed vitamins), a playplace (little mini playgrounds made for birds).  Sounds like youve got most of the necessities though.  Off to a good start :)

  5. More toys, water, and a water bottle, cuttle bone and mineral block, things to chew on and a bird bath (a little one) and a bird protector to get rid of mites and bugs.

  6. You have ALOT of stuff for your bird.... get it a spanish teacher(kidding)
