What else should we see in Füssen tomorrow?

We went to Neuschwanstein a few years ago, but are going again just to take some photos. Is it easy to get to the Marienbrücke nearby?

What else should we do when we go to Füssen? Is Ludwig´s other family castle interesting? What is it called...the one that is gold in color? What else should we do around that area?

  1. HI,

    there are several other castles:

the one right at the big parking when going to Neuschwanstein is Hohenschwangau, which is not as impressive as Neuschwanstein, but still worth a visit.

I think you can even buy a reduced ticket for seeing both castles. Marienbrücke is about half an hour walk and you definitely have to go there, this is the spot where all the pictures from the castle are being made.

Then there is another great castle Herrenchiemsee it is in the middle of the lake Chiemsee and resembles very much the famous Versailles castle in Paris.

But my all time favorite is castle Linderhof (about half an hour from Neuschwanstein). This castle is so "kitsch" that it is already great.

Starting from the castle itself, the huge wonderful park, the Venus grotto, moorish kiosk,...

    I found it superimpressive.

If you plan on visiting 3 or more castles you can buy a yearly ticket, which will make it much cheaper.

  3. It's called Hohenschwangau, but having seen the one it really does not make sence to see the other, unless you are doing architectural studies.

You could go to Munich (2 hours by train).

  4. Go to Hohenschwangau castle - this is the other castle. Definitely go to Marienbrucke  - the view is spectacular. You can go to Alpsee and to Munich of course.

  5. go to forgensee or hopfensee, they are lakes, and rent a rowing or paddle boat and do a little trip on a lake in front of the alps. nice trip and pictures, or, if you have a car, go to lechbruck and its lake. the lake is artificial and on the bottom lies a village which was flooded years ago, the people who lived in it were of course moved before that happened. on summer days, when the water level is low, you might see the peek of the church spire greeting you from the middle of the lake. you can also rent little boats there.

  6. Drive a bit further and go to Oberammergau.
