Question:

What embroidery machine do I need for simple word logos?

I'm fairly knowledgeable about sewing machines, but haven't the slightest clue about embroidery. I want to embroider a company logo on a few polo shirts for a friend. Small text blocks in the left chest area.

What machine is a good one to get started, considering I have no knowledge of embroidery machines? Something easy to learn that will do...say...a 4 x1 text block?

Also something that doesn't cost a fortune, considering this isn't a huge project. I'm sure I'll use the machine in the future, but I'd rather not spend $1000 on something I'm still learning.

I've seen the $500 price range to be about average...?

Is there anything cheaper?I've seen random $200 ranges... What's the best machine to go with for what I need?

Thanks so much in advance!

  1. There's a fairly steep learning curve for embroidery machines -- so if this is not something you're very sure you want to learn, the cheaper and easier route would be to take the design to a professional embroiderer.  Check the phone book and start calling.

Otherwise, $500 will get you a machine that may do ok.  Add in stabilizer, hoops, threads, and lessons.

  2. I think if you are going to get a machine to do logos you should get it with a 5 x7 field so you can embroider both large and small logos and you are not limited to only 4" x 4" which can only do very small letters in one hooping when doing a name (5 x7 allows you to rotate the design to go lonqways to do bigger names) . I feel the Brother PE-700 is the best machine to get a reasonable price. It has a great needle threader (great if you are old like me) and embroiders crisp and beautifully. It is also really easy to use which is great if you are just starting out. I know alot of others are harder to use.  got mine from mr vac and mrs sew. They have it at a great price and they have it with software that allows you to transfer designs from your computer to your machine and also allows to create your own designs great if you have logos and do a little business on the side like me. I also got it with the grand slam package which only mr vac and mrs sew has. That was a great deal and I got 10,000 embroidery designs, 61 spools of thread for the brother machine in a cool box, a hat and sock hoop, stabilizer and some other little things. It is a great machine and a great deal. Here is link to where I got it:
