I am doing a project and i need to know which one is better to charge batteries. Do batteries last longer if you use a normal battery charger or a solar charger?

  1. They'll probably charge faster on a plug-in charger.  As far as how long they last, it doesn't make a difference what method you use, as long as the batteries fully recharge.  A solar charger recharges the batteries the same way as a plug-in charger.

  2. Electricity battery charger: the input for the charger is a standard wall outlet - 120V AC. This is relatively constant and powerful. Some battery chargers can charge within an hour - 6 hours. It's quick. It's also typically avaliable. I haven't seen a power outage for years. However, to produce electricity, electric companies must burn fuel. Relatively, 4 standard batteries will not burn a lot of fuel over their lifetime. Also, it does cost money - not a lot though.

Solar battery charger: the input is the sun. The sun is a re-usable resource. Also, sun's rays are free! Furthermore, you are only restricted to a sunny day, not a wall outlet. I would suspect that the time to charge may be inconsistant since the sun's intensity can vary. I would also suspect that it take longer to charge - ( don't quote me on this ). The power to using a solar battery is for situations where you cannot be confined to a wall outlet. Battery chargers would be great for outing gear! It is also good for areas where the sun shines long and bright. Here in Mass, I wouldn't want to depend on the sun - for it is dark most of the day.

As for the length of battery life, that is dependent on the material which is used to make the battery.

"So, what's the average amount of time the batteries last for?"

Depends on the load (amount of current being drawn). If you play your Protable Nintendo with the brightest screen setting, your battery will drain much quicker than if you set it to the dimmest. A device with 4 batteries will drain the batteries slower than one with 2. - there's less overall ampage.

  3. Doesn't a solar charger just produce electricity, that then charges the batteries? So, the battery life would be the same in both circumstances. The only difference I'm aware of is chargers that recharge batteries quickly, around two hours, versus chargers that take longer, like near six hours - the ones that charge quickly tend to wear out the batteries faster (I think).

  4. Solar chargers are environment friendly. They will both charge the same amount but the solar charger will definitely take a lot longer.

  5. its dependant on the maximum capacity of the battery, neither should have a differance in how long the batter lasts, just how long it takes to charge.

  6. how long a battery lasts has to do with the battery's composition, not what type of charger you have.  A solar charger, while greener, will generally take longer to charge a battery, and is limited to daylight hours for it to work.

  7. A solar battery charger converts solar energy into electricity, then dumps it into the battery.  The normal charger takes electricity from the wall socket, then dumps it into the battery.  The only difference is where the electricity comes from.  The end result, in terms of battery life, is exactly the same.

  9. battery charger..

  10. does it even matter? solar will always be the best choice for energy.

  11. Both have little impact on batteries as batteries are just a power storage unit. Only thing from these that would influence the longetivity of the battery is the amount of energy transferred at one single time by solar or electricity, surge effect. Otherwise solar is more economical then electricity.

  12. Solar, there is also wind -up for some things

  13. they both convert to electric energy in the end. electric is faster.

  14. The batteries' charge will last the same amount of time if you are using the same batteries.  It is usually the amount of time that it takes to charge the batteries that differs.  It usually takes longer to charge them via solar energy than a normal plug in unit.  But again, this would depend on the type of charger you are using.

  15. um since we have never actually hooked up wires to the sun I will say electricity

  16. battery charger

  17. A solar charger converts energy from sunlight to electricity to charge your battery.  The battery doesn't know the difference.
