  1. tons  if u go up into the old town some nice bars down bye the harbour and some late nite bars and rest rants .have a great time

  2. Only birdwatching, drinking, and cheap laughs.

The food is awful - both the variety and quality - but if you want the sort of crud which is served up by late night takeaways here in Blighty then you will love it.

There is not much entertainment that you can't find in any average provincial town centre with its mixture of chavs, junkies, ravers, drunks, slappers, and brawlers.

  3. I agree with wise Irish girl,I'm an Ulster girl + have been to Lanzarote many times. My two fave cafes are "Chester fried"+the carvery next door _up the hill. The Clansman does a HUGE fish supper + the Indian beside the casino is good, though small portions.Caesars,Tropical,Route66 are the only nightspots I liked. But there are loads more + new ones too.   P.S. I am no spring chicken so livelier bars you will have to check out for yourself. It's not as good as it used to be _ but where is?

  4. I have to disagree with the person above, at least on the topic of food. It's true that the main reason for a holiday in Puerto del Carmen (or in any of the Canary Islands for that matter) is for year-round sun and some cheap fun and relaxation, it's not a luxurious place and not one for the culture vultures, but I'm sure you know that already! With regard to food though, there is a huge variety of food available in Puerto del Carmen - everything from Indian, Thai, Italian and Chinese to fish restaurants, steakhouses and cafes/sandwich bars, as well as tapas bars and other Spanish-style food. In terms of entertainment there are loads of bars and clubs all along the main street in the resort, and if you're going with any of the main tour operators I'm sure they will have planned events that you can attend.

  5. Avoid it like the plague. Seriously. Just like Costa Teguise, it's scarily bad. That is, unless you want to have the choice of ham egg and chips or a chinese takeway as your staple diet (or most other foods you could get here for cheaper) From what I've heard, its only saving grace is the old dock. There's one in del carmen and playa blanca - one of them's quite good, I think it's playa blanca but I can't really remember.

Go for somewhere with culture. There are lots of people in small towns that rent out parts of their villas / timeshares. And get a hire car - there's so much to look at in Lanzarote - avoid the three main resorts if you're going for anything more than a sunny england.
