My daughters received a copy of Shrek the Third that is an HD DVD and unfortunately it does not seem to work on any of our regular dvd players.

  1. You have to buy an HD DVD player.  Sorry...

Try finding out which store it is from and exchanging it for a regular DVD.

  2. hd dvd player.that format has already dead.it might have regular dvd on the other side if the other side is playable.

  3. This might be a little tricky, here's why.

Toshiba, the main backer of HD-DVD bowed out of the HD disc war, and no one is really manufacturing anything for HD-DVD because of that.  Everything is now Blu-Ray as far as HD DVDs.

Your better off just tossing it, and buying a new copy on regular DVD if you don't want to output huge expenses.

    Good luck!

  4. No it won't work in regular DVD players. It will play ONLY in an HD-DVD player. Just like Blu-ray DVDs won't play in a regular DVD player, but only in a BD player. One would hope that eventually the technologies will converge and any DVD will play in any DVD player, but don't hold your breath.

On the bright side both HD-DVD players and BD players WILL play regular SD (standard definition) DVDs complete with upscaling.
