  1. The basics: milk, bread, eggs, butter.  Ketchup, mustard, salad dressing.  Lunch meat, water or something else to drink.  Cereal, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce and ramen noodles.  Canned or frozen veggies.  There, that ought to get you started.  Oh yeah and basic seasonings like montreal steak or garlic and herb.

  2. Toilet plunger. Bleach. Bin Bags. Gloves. Room deodorant. Shovel & Broom. Many hard & soft sided cleaning sponges. Antiseptic cleansing spray. Outside and Inside scrubbing brush. That's stage 1..

A good dessert (like ice cream or a nice cake) to have when you relax at night and to share with a friend.

Start off with premade stuff that don't take a lot of ingredients or spices and aren't expensive, and each trip add another staple to your pantry so eventually you will be able to cook anything pretty much at will.

Things to have on hand - onions, flour, cornstarch, potatoes, rice, garlic, tomato sauce/paste, pasta, chicken/beef stock or bullion, carrots, celery, mushrooms, some cream soups maybe, beans, canned or frozen veggies - these can be added as you go along.

  5. a microwave and paper towl.

and food, that could be handy =]

  6. Basic non perishable groceries:

    a) pasta, rice, tinned tuna, lentils, some frozen vegetables, some sliced bread for the freezer (for toast when you have no fresh bread) coffee, tea, sugar, salt, pepper, biscuits, jam, cereals, some eggs, long life milk, water and other drinks, some packet soups, oil, balsamic vinegar.

    b) Basic cleaning and other stuff: washing tablets and conditioner for the washing machine, liquid detergent (for dishes) plus tablets/powder if you have a dishwasher. A bottle of bleach, a general cleaning spray for kitchen and bathroom, a glass cleaner spray, a dusting cloth, a mop and bucket, sponge for the kitchen. Toilette tissue, kleenex, paper towels. For the kitchen: aluminium foil and cling film.

It looks like a lot, but they really are basics, even the food, you can always eat something if you keep groceries like rice, pasta, some onions and eggs at home, even if have not had time to go shopping.

  7. toilet paper and cereal.

  8. Toiletries (toothpaste, toilet paper, etc.)

    Cleaning supplies (multipurpose)

Staple food items (sugar, milk, eggs, pasta, soups, etc.)

Condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, whatever you like)

The first shopping trip can be really expensive if you're outfitting a new home with everything you need.  Think about the types of foods you enjoy eating on a regular basis.  IT's not necessary to buy all the essentials at once, but plan to pick up a few on each shopping trip.  Over a few months you'll have acquired all the essentials.

  9. what ever

  10. Here's what I bought:

    Toilet paper, paper towels,

cleaning agents (multi-surface, floor, toilet, carpet, glass, dish soap, hand soap, dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent and fabric softener, toilet brush, dish rags & scrubbies),

flashlight or candles & lighter for emergency power outages, first aid kit, along with some good ol' ibuprofen.

basic spices- salt, pepper, chili powder, garlic, oregano, sugar, cinnamon, flower, tea, coffee, baking soda

supplies for hanging decorations / just generally having "fix-it" tools around the house - hammer, nails, screwdriver, screws, level

sheets and towels: bath, hand, kitchen, face, bath mat, shower curtain

Misc: scissors, pens, pwer strip, extension cord, spare light bulbs, Febreeze, Lysol, coffee filters, iron, ironing board

flatware, serving spoons, cutting board, knives, pots & pans, cookie sheet, tupperware, corkscrew/ bottle opener, can opener, pot holders, refrigerator magnets, mop, broom, dust pan, trash bags, trash can,

(Not to mention all your favorite foods - make sure you get some produce!)

The list goes on and on, and the first trip is always waaaaay more expensive than the regular trips you'll make in the future.  I hope this helps.

Hope this helps!  Congratulations on your first place!

  18. Cleaning supplies would be one item, also basic sanitary supplies such as toilet paper and Kleenex. Paper towels, sponges are needed as well. All of the basic food items you would normally expect to eat in a week- bread, milk, OJ, eggs, fruits, vegetables, canned and instant soups, frozen foods including microwavable entrees, laundry detergent, stain remover, fabric softener, and all fabric bleach. Meat products are another food item you may want to add in- as well as seafood products, if you eat them, including canned tuna. Think about what you eat each week where you are currently living, and use that as a reference point when you make your shopping list.

If your new place has carpeting, you will want to look into getting a vacumn cleaner and bags for it. You will also want a mop for the kitchen floor, broom(s) for sweeping linoleum or tile floors, and a dust pan. Garbage cans and trash bags of different sizes are another must have item. Find out in advance of your move when trash day is at your new home, and be ready to put your trash out for the collectors when they come. Depending on what kind of furniture you have and how much of it you have, you may want to get some furniture polish for it.

If you don't already have these, you will need to get sheets for your bed, towels for the bathroom, a bath mat, and possibly a throw rug or two for the floor of your bedroom.  A lot of these decisions will depend on how big your new place is, how much furniture you have, and how many people will be living there.  Hope this helps.

  19. Toilet paper, paper towel, soap, detergent, toothpaste, food.  Think of all the things you do from the time you wake up until the time you go to sleep and write down all the items you use to do those things, and thats what you buy.

  20. Toiletries!

    Non-perishables (To stock up)

  21. All the spices you like, veggies, the other 2 answers are right also, get the cabinets full of stuff you like to eat.

  22. bread, milk, marge, tea, cleaning stuff, bin bags, some cheap crockery, supernoodles for quick snacks - you'll be busy arranging your furniture!  toilet roll, too - very important!

  23. You should buy products that you use the most.

How about napkins, toilet paper, toothpaste, dish washing soap, detergent, spunge, towel, a vacuum cleaner.

  24. If you are shopping for food the biggest pointer I can give anyone is you must make a menu first for the week. Figure what you'll be eating for breakfast, lunch and dinner and even snacks.  Then you'll know what food to buy for each meal. If you don't do this you'll end up bringing odds & ends of food home that caught your eye but have nothing to put together a meal with. So have a  plan on paper and happy shopping!
