You put your garbage in bags and it gets taken away by the binmen... but then what happens to it?

What is the whole process of it?

I'm really curious.

  1. some burn it as a power supply see if you go to new york pizza place there pizza boxes are is recycled  paper some just get recycled and the rest get dumped into one larger garbage

  2. There are many alternatives, recycling, landfill, incineration, export to other countries.....however, the long term routes are either it contiues to be circulated in the biosphere, or it finds its way into the geological cycle (very long term).

  3. it gets dumped into landfills where it eventually decomposes into the ground. Paper and paper-like materials decompose a lot faster, while plastics, styrofoam, metals, and glass take hundreds of years to decompose. When thrown away batteries break down, chemicals can get into the soil which is terrible for the environment. If every person in new york city used just one less plastic grocery bag each year, it would reduce waste by 109 tons. So do your part to recycle, although you may be skeptical, you alone can make a difference, and you can inspire others to do so, too.

  4. It decomposes.  Man, I love this Yahoo answers!

  5. it gets dumped in land fills i guess

  6. I asked this question from one binman, and he said it rots away , and then its used as a fertiliser. If that is true or not, I only tell you this from the men that collect it.

  7. It's either dumped straight into a huge hole in the ground or it's burned, then dumped in a huge hole. After that, it slowly begins to biodegrade (break down), some materials biodegrade very quickly and some take years and years.
