Album Oriented Rock...it was what I listened to on FM in the 70s. Artists didn't release singles...they got airplay on FM for certain songs that djs took a shine to.....and you bought the album. The Grateful Dead were an AOR band.

Now I can't find any AOR stations on the radio where I live....you know, playing modern rock, but with an album orientation instead of hit singles orientation. Does it still exist? Maybe on XM?

  1. Try internet radio with a service like Live365.

  2. yeah, today's music sucks. that just proves we are old

  3. Haven't really found any AORs anymore. Most morphed into classic rock stations once the grunge came along in 1991.

About the closest thing is a format called AAA or Adult Album Alternative . There are some releases you will hear on say Pop (like the Santana/Chad Kroger song now on AAA) but most you won't hear anywhere else and the music is the lower key than what we call Rock these days (which is a lot harder and pre determined cut driven)
