What ever happened to Augusto Pinochet?

Lots of bad things.  He, obviously, was a dictator for a number of years in Chile.  His reign ended and he was placed under house arrest.  He eventually was caught and tried for war crimes from his dictatorship.  During the trial, his health started to fade as he was just so old.  Pinochet died a few days later, on 10 December, 2006, without having been convicted of any crimes committed during his dictatorship.  I hope this was helpful.

Some Chileans regard General Pinochet as a hero; saving the country from Communism, having been sent by God.

The military coup took place on 9/11/73.  Another 9/11 !!!

When Pinochet died last year people queued for hours to pass by his Lying in State and riots broke out between the pro and anti factions resulting in several deaths.
