  2. well it's still around but not as intensely so. It's all to do with the emission of nitrogen oxides and sulphates into the air from combustion engines and big smelters etc. Now we have catalytic converters and scrubbers to take these harmful compounds out of the exhausted mass of particulates and there is not as much making its way into the clouds to make acid rain.
