today i was at my local petland discounts and i saw a cool looking fish they were like yellow and red but they looked similar to zebra danios i asked the clerk what kid of fish are those and he told me that those are Glofish i like them but the price was just insane it was 12$ for 2 fish ( which make 1 fish cost 6$)

so what are the glofish??? are they like a "colored" zebra danios??? i want to get like 6 or 10 of them i have a 30 gallon tank with 2 neon gouramis will that be enough to keep them?

and what is the avarage price for them ??? cause there is no way im gonna pay 6 $ for 1 fish does petco or petsmart carry them ?

  1. Last guy hit the nail on what they are.

All I'll put about them is that's a great deal on the fish (where I used to work they charged 10 EACH)

They're not very humane, but there is really nothing you can do about it, so buy them if you'll take care of them and relieve them of the stressful life they've already had.

Just buy them from Petland because even if petco or petsmart carry them the ones from Petland are probably in better health and will live longer. Just a trend I've found with buying fish from all three stores.

  2. They are zebra danios that were genetically modified to be brightly colored. They were injected with extracts from jellyfish and other colored sea life, to produce the fish you see.

  3. Glofish are zebra danios who are genetically enhanced to make the fluorescent. However, they are NOT injected, they inherit their color from their parents and are perfectly healthy. Though I wouldn't trust the stock's health at Walmart, I saw them there for 2-3 bucks each, so about 1/2 of what you're looking at. Who knows, your Walmart may actually take care of their fish (unlike mine who I have to complain to often) and have a healthy set of Glofish.
