What exactly are Annual Plants?

I have recieved 2 hanging baskets, I forget what type of flowers they are (I am new to 'gardening'). I just remember the tags saying "Annual". Does that mean that they come back annually each year or that they are only going to live during a certain seasonal time period or what??? Also, if they will come back next year, what should I do with them during the winter?? Forgive me if these are dumb questions.

  1. Just good for this season, perennials go dormant in the winter and come back in spring.

  2. It means they are only going to bloom or grow during one season, and would have to be replaced " annually " ( yearly )

They will not come back next year, the ones that do are called perennials.

I love plants and gardening and I hope you will too.

Just don't start out with anything too expensive lol.

    Good luck

  3. An annual is a plant that germinates, grows, blooms, seeds, and dies in the same growing season.

Annuals are perpetuated by collecting seed and starting fresh the following year.

  4. An annual plant is one that grows and dies in one year.  It won't come back next year without being reseeded.  Not a dumb question at all.
