What exactly are Tax-Oriented Investments?

I got a finance internship in this department at a large bank, and have no clue what it is or what people do in this department.

I haven't heard of tax oriented investments per se.  However, there are people with significant amounts of cash that are concerned about taxes on dividends and capital gains distributions (from mutual funds).  Several banks, borkerages, and mutual funds offer tax managed or tax free investing options (e.g. municipal bond and money market funds).
