  1. You have heard it correctly, though many dentists are still skeptical about mini implants. It is generally post middle age that a person loses most/all his/her teeth and dentures may be one of the treatment of choice. With the advent and subsequent improvements increased the success ratio of conventional implants. Mini implants are yet to catch up with that, though the treatment cannot be dismissed as bad. Not all jawbone situations are good for mini implants. A situation where four conventional implants are needed for denture, opting for mini implants you may require 6-8 to ensure stability of denture. Then where is the saving? Debate continues, while mini implants keep improving in efficacy....

  2. They are used to stabilize dentures

  3. Mini implants are thinner than traditional sized dental implants. Mini's are only about the diameter of a toothpick. They are less expensive than traditional sized dental implants but can only be used to anchor a denture that is fitted with snaps under it. Some people do very well with mini implants. Mini have only been available for less than 5 years and their longevity is unknown. However the biting strength is considerably less than traditional because of the size.

I have traditional sized implants that my teeth are attached with screws too. I cannot remove my teeth and brush and floss like regular teeth.
