I was wondering what exactly could happen. I have myopia and astigmatism and I wear contacts. I get at least 4-6 hours of computer time everyday.

  1. You will (you probably already do) experience eye strain. However, eye strain is 100% completely harmless and resolves itself quite simply. How do you 'cure' it?

-Take frequent breaks. Every 10, 20, or 30 minutes, look away from the screen and out the window at a distant object. If there's no window, stare at the farthest thing in your view.

-Up the fonts. Increasing the fonts on your text documents, browser, or email client can make a huge difference in reducing strain.

-Use an eye drop. Our blink rate goes down quite significantly while using the computer, making eye drops especially helpful. I personally strongly suggest Refresh Endura (or Refresh Dry Eye) in single-use preservative free vials. Most drug stores carry it. Do NOT use things like visine, because visine can actually make things worst.

-Know your eyes. Even if you don't have a planned computer break or eye dropping time set, if you experience discomfort, do what you need to so that you feel 'normal' again before resuming computer use.

  2. Looking away from the screen often is the key.

Every few minutes, just look around the room for a moment to let your eyes refocus at the distance.

Then every 45 minutes or so, take a real 5 minute break and look outside if possible. That will also help back and shoulder fatigue.

But, no...it won't affect your vision aside from strain, which is temporary.

  3. Ur eyes take up a lot of strain...so do ur shoulders and back and other parts of ur body if ur posture is not right...

    Check out: http://www.visionworksusa.com/computerey...

they have some exercises for the eyes...

I work on a computer atleast 8 hrs per day and i take a breather every hour...jus focus on a distant object, try to walk around for couple mins...relax shoulders and get back to work...

    for posture, chk out http://www.fitness-programs-for-life.com...

    or http://www.safety.uwa.edu.au/policies/go...

there is a doc in the 2nd link which tells u how to avoid stress due to incorrect posture.. ( i have a bad posture and have shoulder and back pains frequently :-( ...)

  4. stress build up.....shoulder ache...back ache....try to take a brake ltes say 5 min every one hour...try to look far....greenery...relaxes your eyes...and reduces the stress build up.

  5. it is bad

  6. Your eyes will lose it's moisture and you will get eyestrains. Which will make it itchy and stinging and very sore, because people who work at the computer or on it hours on end, don't tend to blink alot. Me, myself, suffered from eyestrain.

  7. your sight would be effected really badly.. its like watching tv
