What exactly constitutes ‘downloading’?

I’ve signed up to an internet package with monthly download limits. Does visiting a website constitute downloading? Does viewing a clip on Youtube without saving it constitute downloading?

Thanks for your help.

  1. Downloading is when you save something to your hard drive. Going to a website is simply loading it, the website isn't permanently in your computer's memory from that point on so it is not a download. Anything downloaded is negligible as it won't amount to a Kb. Pretty much think about it this way: If you can use it in anyway, even just opening it, while you are not connected to the internet, it is a download.

  2. Yes, everything is downloading. Use this free meter to check your usage:

    http://codebox.no-ip.net/controller?page...

Once installed, right-click its icon next to your clock in the bottom, select Statistics Grid and that will show your usage.

EDIT: what? why the thumbs down?

  3. YES - everything you do on the internet will fall under that catagory - however that being said - you might want to make sure with your providor what they deem as download (some incluse web pages others dont some include streaming and again some dont ) so just to be sure check with them.

  4. What ever you do adds to your total of Internet usage.

To explain simply, open your browser download, click on a link upload, next page download, click to watch a video upload, watch it download and so on.

If you want to watch your totals go to >

    http://www.hootech.com/netmeter

With it you can set your cap and it displays a running display total of your usage. It keeps written running logs on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. It also works out what you have used and what you have left till the end of the month, as well what you have left for each day.
