  1. their own c**p.

  2. i reckon they have a supply of food stashed somewhere, like most other animals.

  3. overwintering pupae of moths and butterflies, tree seeds and flower seeds, egg clusters from insects that were laid in the fall, overwintering insects, seeds and a variety of other things people set out for them in feeders, dried out fruits on trees or vines

  4. Many eat food put out for them by people in their gardens and in public parks and nature reserves, or at least it often is a sizeable part of their winter diet. Blackbirds continue to dig up worms; obviously when the ground is frozen for long periods, they suffer greatly; woodpeckers use their long sharp beaks to gouge out insect larvae from tree barks, and **** eat insect larvae from trees and shrubs as well as dining on the nut feeders in gardens; many birds eat seeds and these are present in the winter, as is fruit and rotting fruit and berries on trees, particularly during the first half of the winter. Ducks and water birds continue to dip down under the surface for the waterweed and other stuff they like, but again are hit hard during cold weather when the water ices up. Our birds of prey continue to eat smaller birds and animals such as rabbits; the weakest and oldest birds often perish during the winter food shortages and it is a question of survival of the fittest.

  5. Any thing they can get mainly through the kindness of people.=what a good thought= for everyone who reads this a reminder to put some left overs out for these creatures please.

  6. Boiled steak and kidney pie bangers, mashed.

  7. larvae

  8. I think you'll find that it's turnips.
