What exactly do music producers do?

Music producers promote music and manage record companies and labels. Just like in movies, the producers are the ones who hire the directors, set designers, sound technicians, etc., etc. They are the big boss behind the operations. They also promote, sell, and advertise the music.

it can start off by having alot of money for equipment for making beats,and then they find talent and then they collab and make some hits and get known

or go to college and take up music engineer so you can have an advantage at that,piano lessons would work also,basically the more music talent you have the better,make your music known

From what I understand, just like in film, it's generally a catch-all term.  A producer can do anything from creating all of the music, mixing and engineering; to something as simple as financial backing.

Record labels are started with money, publicity, or both.
