What exactly do you do at the class to get your lifegaurd training? details?

  1. This is the general gist of most places:

    Swim test - 500 yards of various strokes. Just to make sure you know how to swim

    CPR class - not too bad

    about a week on various ways to save a person. (whether they are struggling or under water or whatever)

    How to backboard (this will be the hardest probably)

    How to save someone with a head and neck injury (which involves backboarding)

    Basically the hardest thing you'll do is have to swim to the bottom, pick up someone with a neck injury, and backboard them. It's really not hard once you get practice and if your a decent swimmer.

    Some places, like the YMCA, will also have you take a course on oxygen administration and AED.
