What exactly does a marine do while he is floating the med.?

My fiance leaves in 4 weeks to go on a ship and float the Mediterranean for 7 months. He is a cook... but what exactly do they do? Anything helps put my mind to rest.

  1. There's alot for them to do,, cooks have strange hours, breakfast is usually before 5 am and preparing meals for hundreds of Marine personnel is difficult work, then there's cleaning up after them,, unloading supplies and making sure everything goes smoothly with serving and cooking. Can you imagine washing those huge pans and such for five hundred or more people.. ? Not to mention the stress and feelings he'll be going through,if he's never been to sea for that long.


  2. They have an all night and all day mess-hall, and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at one time. people are going and coming to work their shift. Every crew member is on standby them that are assigned to the ship, are called ' ships company ' Engineering and deck divisions The officers have their own mess, and so do the CPO's Maybe some ships have 1st  class petty-officers mess also.

  3. He will go to port and he will cook. no fighting for him. Just sloppy joes.
