  1. The removed part means you are of a different generation.

If you go here: http://www.rushings.info/images/kinships... you can see the chart that courts and genealogical societies use to determine cousins and kinships.

  2. What they don't tell you is that pippin was his 2nd Cousin once removed either way (meaning both on his mother and father's sides).  Kinda icky if you think about it.

    LOL

  3. Yep, what itsjustme said.  I have no idea what all this c**p is (Frodo to Bilbo...LOTR).  That makes no sense to me.

  4. Have a look at this chart maybe that will help.

    http://genealogy.about.com/library/nrela...

  5. It's when there is a generation seperating you.  For example, you're parents second cousin's would be your second cousin's once removed, because there's a generation seperating you and you're parents.

And FYI, Frodo and Bilbo are two characters in Lord of the Rings (LOTR).

  6. 2C1R means the second cousin of your mom or dad; or the child of your second cousin.

It has been a long time since I read Lord of the Rings. My favorite part was when the evil guy told the knight he was destined never to be killed by man, and SHE whipped off her helmet and said "Guess what, Jack?! I'm going to have your liver on the end of my lance like a martini olive on a toothpick", more or less.

When cousins of the same degree (first, second, third) have children, those children add a degree.

Children of siblings are first cousins.

Children of first cousins are second cousins.

Children of second cousins are third cousins.

It continues, but by the time you get to 12th cousins you are talking about a couple of million people, and most of us don't know all of them.

Removed is when you go up or down a generation. If your second cousin had a grandchild, that grandchild would be your second cousin twice removed.

Your grandparents had second cousins, probably. Those second cousins are yours too, but twice removed.
