I was looking at the chihuahua standard and it said the chi's expression should be "saucy". What does saucy... mean?

(P.S. Doesn't my hawk friend look evil? lol)

  1. LOL, I don't know...they are from Mexico, so they might mean salsa?!

    did it eat judge?

  2. rude, impudent, fresh, brazen and jaunty

Very evil :) LIKE A WATERMELON! lol

  3. i have 3 chihuahuas, and the only explanation i can give for saucy is when they know that they are cheeky or slightly rude in an amusing and light-hearted way, or jaunty, and boldly smart.  basically it means to be "spirited"

yes, your hawk friend looks wicked cool...  :-)

  4. Slightly cocky, and self-assured, with a hint of deviltry, would be my interpretation.  That's is why the same dog doesn't win under every single judge.  The breed standard can only be interpreted to mean what it means to the reader.  Another person might have a different view on this piece of the standard.

  5. That means that the look should be punky and spunk. The chihuahua has a normal spunky face. It just does. They can be friendly faced and sad and scared, but if it is their normal face it looks spunky.

    Good Luck!

  6. The hawk looks 'intent!

According the The Chihuahua Standard Illustrated>

    Self-importance, Confidence, Self-reliance.

The globular eyes reflect the saucy, impudent attitude.

Now, the Afghan hound standard, says:"Gazing into ages long past"

Well, my hounds are gazing into those seagulls across the street...How is that "gazing into ages long past" ??

Some of these breed standards were written by poets, is all I can figure.

  7. Chihuahua's are saucy. What it means as they are proud, conceited, and give off a "better than thou" smart alec appearance.

They expect them to behave with this natural born ego in the show ring.

  8. I would say "sassy" might be a better word to use. With my  little girl it is like "hey look at me...I'm smart, bossy, have a mind of my own and a very big attitude.

  9. ??Beagle Bootie??, I haven't had any problems with my chihuahua.

  10. impertinent: characterized by a lightly pert and exuberant quality; "a certain irreverent gaiety and ease of manner"

    # fresh: improperly forward or bold;
