Question:

What exactly goes into a wedding invitation?

I just got engaged and I am looking at wedding invitation sets at stores. I would rather not spend a bundle on invites, so I would just like to know what needs to be included in the invitation, i.e. reply card, invitation, directions, etc.

Also- where does the bridal registry information go? Thanks!

  1. Mr. an Mrs. Brides Parents Name

Invite you to celebrate the marriage of their daughter

    Brides Name to Grooms Name

    Day, date Time

    Location

Here is a website to see examples: http://www.weddingpaperdivas.com/

  2. Whose getting married (Bride & groom's name plus you can include the parent's here as well)

When the wedding will be (Date and Time)

Where the wedding will be (Location & Directions/ Map)

Where the reception will be (Location & Directions/ Map)

When the reception will be (Time)

I find that most people appreciate the Where of the reception location on a separate card that way it can be easily taken with them on the day of the wedding. The same thing is true of the registry information. You can save some money and have an added uniqueness to your invitation by having a picture of you and your fiance made into a post card at a copy shop (Kinkos, etc) All you have to do is stamp your address on it and add a stamp and they can RSVP with by filling in the information and dropping it back into the mail to you. You should be able to find everything you need at a simple chain store (Target, maybe Walmart) and if you want to make it a little different try using some scrapbooking scissors and punches to personalize your invites.

it depends whos hosting the wedding... either you or the parents...

I would put the bridal registry info in a small piece of paper inside the card... Also include a map... as a gesture... and the

RSPV can be included at the end of the card with the exact date for it...

The honor of your presence is requested

    At the marriage of

    Dewanna Jones McPhereson

    And

    Christopher Kwame Johnson

    Saturday, the fourth of June

At seven o'clock in the evening

    Marquis Hotel

    Terra Haute, Indiana

  4. It depends on the level of formality of your wedding. Very formal weddings have all of the inserts including the invitation, reply card, tissue paper and return envelope. very informal wedding invitations can be a handwritten note.

No bridal registry with the invitation. I know, I know, the store gave you the little card. But, we don't use them for wedding invitations, sorry. Spread the word to those who ask and through the family or post the registry info on your wedding website, if you have one. No mention of gifts ever on a wedding invitation. save the registry cards for the bridal shower.
