What exactly happened to the london trains and tubes today to cause such huge delays?

I think there was signal failure like there always is, very annoying, because it happens so often, the other day most of the train lines were suspended!! Just keep yourself informed before you travel at www.tfl.gov.uk and there they tell you whats going on with the lines everyday.

There was a security alert at Waterloo station (I was there) causing all the trains to become displaced because no trains were allowed back to Waterloo station.

because we keep having hoaxes of bombs and bombscares so they have to take it as very serious and stop trains that run to these stations

Waterloo this week has had a number of hoax bombscare calls this week which has caused problems, Victoria had one as well this morning and caused a partial closure.

Prehistoric infrastructure which has been showing the strain for years and years and years due to decades of underinvestment.   A different culture altogether : in many other countries, govenments know the importance of investing in the future.  Here, there's either never enough money and the Treasury says government departments should adopt "slash and burn" tactics to cut costs.   Otherwise : it's all left to private industry.  With the profit motive it's a case of stuff the travelling public, what about our profits???!!!!
