What exactly happens when you "restore" an iPod?

I have been experiencing problems with my iPod touch and there is a thing that allows you to "restore" it and erase any problems. Does it erase any of your songs/videos when you do this? thanks for your help, it's thoroughly appreciated! :)

  1. yep it erase's everything even it resets the  settings here is what you start you touch then hold the sleep/wake button and the  home button at the same wait for 10 seconds then it will restart showing the apple logo the release the sleep/wake button don't release the home button keep holding then plug the touch in the USB cable and to the computer then open itunes it will tell your ipod is detected in recovery mode you must restore it to use it then click okay then click restorer then wait for 10 minutes and watch TV or something
