  3. well it depends on what type of tranquilizer is used, but basically its the same as when a person is put under sedation for surgery.

    these effects can deaden the nerves so that pain isnt felt and awarness/conciousness is reduced or lost.

    it could simply be a muscle relaxer that renders the animal unable to respond or lowers the metabolic rate.

    either way the mechanism is very similar, either the release of neurotransmitters from the nerves is prevented, or those transmitters are kept from binding to their targets preventing any effect.
