What are its specifications and why is it better and SO MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE than normal CDs and DVDs? I'd like to know a little bit about the science behind it, in layman terms. Thanks!

  1. Blu-ray uses a blue (instead of violet) laser, which allows Data to be stored more tightly together, which allow more gigs per disc.

a single layer blu-ray is 25 gigs, a double layer is 50 gigs. Why is it expensive? well...because it's new technology, and new technology is always expensive. The cheapest way to get a quality, multimedia Blu-ray player is PS3. Almost all new movies are now available on both blu-ray in HD, or DVD in SD.

to put it nice and simple, Blu-ray is the Succesor to DVD (just like DVD was the Succesor to CD, and CD was the succesor to Floppies)

  2. It is a new technics of recording.

  3. The most obvious advantage is 67 percent more data storage than HD DVD. BluRay is the clear winner in the battle to capture the future of high-def DVD's, just as VHS won over Beta. The price will come down as soon as manufacturers are able to saturate the market. It will come down more when BluRay's main patents run out, but by then, a whole new generation of video will probably have been released, making today's high-def videos obsolete.
